How SRNAs Maintain Their Well-Being

The AANA has asked SRNA’s to describe how they maintain their well-being! Alex Corbit from Chicago, Il said “For me, it’s about structure and setting goals, all while accepting that sometimes things don’t go according to plan.” Lauren Bergman from MUSC in Charleston, SC said “What helps me to cope is talking about it, taking time to do something I love, and maintaining a good sleep schedule.” With using these testimonies the AANA is trying to highlight how to maintain physical and mental well-being during stressful times. Along with this, in honor of April being Diversity Month, the AANA has also launched the “I AM ME” campaign to bring awareness and emphasize the importance of unique identities and experiences among CRNAs and SRNAs.

New Study Pushes Back on Claims of Epidural/Autism Link

Some of you may be aware of the article published in JAMA Pediatrics in October last year suggesting a connection between epidurals and autism by authors Qui, Lin, Shi, et al. That study has just been refuted by another from Stanford and the University of Manitoba. The October study had already been criticized for leaving out many confounding variables like genetics, socioeconomics, and medical risks that increase likelihoods of Autism diagnosis. The new study in April from Dr. Alexander Butwick takes these variables into account and found no significant indications of any statistical link between epidural use during birth and later Autism.
